We are located in Fort Lauderdale, FL and are plagued by
light polluted skies. The good news is that dark sites are not that far
away. There is a site known as Area 51 in the Everglades that provides
fairly dark skies. It is about a 45 minute drive from Fort Lauderdale, so it's
not that bad and the dark skies are worth it.
The city, however, is anything but dark. There are
street lights everywhere and the zenith is lit up rather brightly.
Currently, this author has a modified Celestron Nexstar 8i, which is an incredible scope. I am planning on purchasing a Celestron 11CGE at
the end of the year.
We at CoolScopes.com live for clear skies. We
started this site to be able to help gives others a basic understanding
of astronomy and telescopes, and to provide the free service of
astronomy classified ads and astronomy forums.
