Lots of people have seen computerized images of the planets. And nearly everybody has looked up at the stars at least once. Elementary kids learn all about the heliocentric solar system throughout their school career, and that information is built upon once they reach high school. But to know about something isn’t the same as to look at something and really study it. There once was a time when the universe and the sky and the stars and the sun were all mysteries, at best discussed in metaphorical and religious terms, but without anything solid or concrete. Galileo was the first to challenge the so-called natural order of the universe by studying it, questioning it, and creating new theories about how the Earth’s place in the cosmos—namely not at the center of things. All of that was possible because of the invention of telescopes, and it is possible now for children and adults to use them to make their own discoveries about the universe.

These are relatively simple instruments in theory, but in practice, there is a whole range of available models, the differences great and minute. The biggest, most primary distinction between models is glasses versus mirrors. A model with two glass lenses in a refractory scope. A model with one or more mirror is a reflecting model. There is also a third option, which is a combination of the two. Galileo is credited with inventing the refracting model, but it’s not so well known that Isaac Newton made the first operable reflection model.

Telescopes

Brass Telescopes
Brass telescopes are made of brass and are quite beautiful.

Eyepieces
Has the apparent view of field of the angle you are gazing through the telescope at. This means that every view can be entirely different.

Handheld Brass Telescopes
Handheld brass telescopes come in many varieties, often with leatherettes.

How Do Telescopes Work
How do telescopes work? Telescopes work by either refracting or reflecting to manipulate light.

Hubble Space Telescope
The Hubble Space Telescope works as a vital research tool for NASA.

Hubble Telescope
The Hubble Telescope was put into orbit in 1990. It is a valuable research tool.

Optical
Used for focusing light on am image to magnify it, there are three types of optical telescopes.

Radio Telescopes
Radio telescopes are different in the fact that they use radio frequency in comparison to using optical telescopes.

Reflecting
A reflecting telescope is one of three kinds of optical telescopes, using light and curved mirrors to reflect an image.

Reflection
Reflection telescopes allow the user to see distant images with the use of reflective curved mirrors.

Refracting
Refracting telescopes can be used in telescopes, binoculars and more by using two lenses to collect and focus light.

Reviews
Telescope reviews are available from those who are regular telescope users as well as those who are first time users.

Sky and Telescope
Sky and Telescope is available as a magazine or online, presenting photographs, news, and articles.

South Pole
The South Pole telescope was placed in the South Pole, Antarctica in February 2007, for purposes of observing thousands of distant galaxies.

Space Telescopes
The primary focus of space telescopes is to gather information which is later sent back to NASA for study.

Telescope
Used for the study of the universe and are also made into other designs such as scopes, binoculars, and more.

Telescope Furniture
Telescope furniture provides a sturdy place for your equipment.

Telescopes
Telescopes are used for the study of the sky and the universe. They come in a variety of styles and levels, making themselves available for beginners and advanced users.

Telescope
Otherwise known as a spyglass, is a slender telescope often used as a site.

Ultraviolet
Work in a similar manner to infrared telescopes, viewing either side of the visible spectrum.

Used
Can be found in many locations. However, it is important to check its age and make sure all parts are working.

World Wide
Worldwide Telescope uses the Microsoft High Performance Visual Experience Engine.
